I think we're far enough to code our mailing solution in now.
Basically, we need e-mail notifications for activity. Should be opt-in/out kinda like Joomlacode allows now, just a little more friendly than a link buried in the sub-nav, and customizable. Does the user want to see all updates on an issue (status changes, comments, etc.), only certain events, or none at all. Allow the user to subscribe to issues at will, as well as unsubscribe.
Not quite sure how to handle tracking preferences at the moment, but that can be worked on.
Looks like you can do it in github too. This reply is coming directly
from my email client.

Reply to this email directly or view it on GitHub:

Supposedly, you can do that through Joomlacode (there's a spot in the message that says "reply here"). It doesn't work. Another point for the "get away from this system" argument?
Is e-mail handling an item we want to get into v1 or is this low enough on the list this can wait for 1.1 or 2.0?
I would vote for "post v1"
This is another item we're discussing locally and questioning whether it's something we need to do period. GitHub already has their notification system and allows you to follow/unfollow with ease.
So we can close it?
Ya, let's just leave notifications to what GitHub provides and not add any additional traffic that's not needed.
It would also be nice to be able to reply from within the email client (e.g "Write your reply above this line"), rather than having to click on the link, log in, find the item (if it doesn't redirect there automatically), etc.
