When I want to filter the issue list I don't see all statuses there. Is this on purpose? If so, I would like to see at least the Open status added to that.

There are two main buttons which represents the main statuses (states) "Open" and "Closed". This is the same like the "state" on the GitHub. When "Open" state is active the status filter displays only statuses which are connected with the "Open" state. When you click on "Closed" you will see statuses connected with the closed state.
