One question? if we are fixing this, why fix it to WCAG-AA level and not all of the way to WCAG-AAA level directly? (just a question), that would mean changing #B3B3B3 currently giving a 4.61:1 ratio to #DCDCDC to give it a 7.06:1 ratio.

Great question @exlemor!
Two reasons I went with AA rather than AAA:
- Joomla's official accessibility target is WCAG AA
https://www.joomla.org/accessibility-statement.html
2.In diff views, deleted text is intentionally muted so attention stays on the new additions. Making it AAA-bright would cause removed content to stand out too much and compete for focus.
Still happy to update to #DCDCDC if the team prefers AAA consistency!
