Updated to 4.2.6. Logged in to backend admin. When viewing the frontend I'm now also logged in and editor icons are showing. This did not happen in 4.2.5. Nothing has been changed in Global Config or plugins between 4.2.5 and 4.2.6 updates.
I do not wish to be logged in to the frontend when logged in the Admin backend.

Asd mentioned nothing was changed during the update. My global config shared session is set to OFF.
Cannot replicate that. Are you logged in with another device?
cannot replicate that too.. are you sure that you didnt had the frontend logged before update? if the session is set to 'database' and you didnt deleted cookies.. i think is not an issue.

I'm experiencing a similar issue. When logged into the back end as super admin, front end appears logged in showing edit buttons.
Shared session is off, deleted cookies, cleared cache, still shows edit buttons on front end.
showing edit buttons.
Is editing then possible? Or just a button?
Editing is fully functional. Just checking a backup copy of the site (made before go live). It's also version 4.2.6 and it does not exhibit the frontend edit problem. There have been a number of updates to the live site which are not applied to the backup copy. Also there was a server switch involved. I need to debug further, then will report back.
I managed to fix my problem. The site is running SP Page builder Pro (version 3).
As a result I was getting 2 edit buttons on the front end (one for SP pagebuilder and one for Joomla edit)
My settings for shared sessions in global config/system was off.
I toggled this on, saved settings. Then toggled it off, saved settings and cleared all caches.
After this the edit buttons on the front end disappeared and my backend login for superuser works fine.
Perhaps SP pagebuilder is not checking the shared session value correctly or perhaps this process just reset something in my world.
At any rate, it appears to be working ok now.
FYI. Here's the list of non-core packages installed.

Can you please reopen this. I have just observed it happening on a site and was only able to resolve it by going to global configuration and setting shared sessions to yes and saving and then logging back in setting it back to no.

Hi! I ran into this issue today. Joomla 4.4.2. I think this only happened for Super User accounts. The session was shared on the frontend causing issues / showing edit buttons. I tried several things but the only thing that helped was turning on the shared session option, save it and then turn it off again. Not sure why / how this got 'stuck'.
After turning the shared session on as a first step you get logged out and need to login again and the turn the shared sessions off and save.
Session handling: Database
Session lifetime: 30
Session meta data: Ye
Session guest metadata: Yes
I don't know what the last two option do...
After switching the shared session on and off again - what seemed to resolve the issue with the shared sessions' - today I noticed the issue has returned. Now we need to do this again. I am not sure what happened in the meantime. This is not only related to admin users as I thought before.
Also in the backend I get a warning message about not having right to access the CMS settings page (it does open) as a superuser.
Please check in your global configuration, system, if the parameter shared session is on.
