Currently its not possible to Close and Comment on an issue at the same time. It would be great if this could be changed so that its easier to ensure that we provide an explanation why we close an issue

Can you elaborate how do you see it from the UI point of view?
Currently the UI only allows you to change a status and edit the original post
If you look at joomlacode.org I could change the status and post a new comment at the same time.
Its much more likely that I would do that than I would post a new comment than edit the original one.
I am guessing that I would change it so that Edit only lets you edit the original post
and create a new button Update
The update button lets me change the status, priority etc and create a new comment.
Does that make sense?
wow you have a better memory than me
I assume you mean this comment
One of the most annoying things on jcode is that it returns to the list
view after saving an item.
If it would just return to the item view (like we are doing now) you could
just change the status or any other field, click save, and then add your
comment.
If so then I see what he means and disagree. Why make me do it in two
stages when I could do it in one.
