Steps to reproduce the issue

create standard articles with perex images and display them in blog layout.

Expected result

To have links (to articles) on blog layout (with articles and their perex images). Links not only on titles. Like K2 component has = for every article, perex images and titles, both links to same article. Joomla should not need to use K2 component... Joomla must be enough comfortable as is with K2 (even with managing images for perex and main article image and not only that...)

Actual result

Missing links to articles on perex images. This is missing since Joomla 1.5

Could you explain what is a "perex" image?

Not sure what perex means but I think this refers to blog images being
click able to the main article. Iirc there is already a pull request for
this although it can be easily achieved with a template override

If I am correct in my guess above then this is a NEW feature now available in 3.4 thanks to #4134
