The issue is that

or
http://matrix.squiz.net/developer/tools/php_cs/license
are anyway unexisting pages....
and that this is a 3rd party library which we should not touch imho

But I would love to learn how to see what Travis has failed it on.

If Travis has failed, you see a red x you can click. This will bring you to the Travis page. There click on the failed jobs (usually all four). There is a job for each PHP version we test with.
In the log you can scroll to the bottom where the results willl be. There is a result for the unit tests and one for the codestyle checks.
