Pull Request resolves #42566 .

  • I read the Generative AI policy and my contribution is either not created with the help of AI or is compatible with the policy and GNU/GPL 2 or later.

Summary of Changes

Fixes unwanted whitespace when rendering custom fields inside article content.

The custom field render layout introduced whitespace/newlines around the rendered field value. When a field was immediately followed by punctuation, such as a comma or full stop, this whitespace was rendered as a visible space.

For example:

operates in Basingstoke , Hampshire .

The field render layout has been adjusted so that no unintended whitespace is output between the rendered field value and the surrounding article content.

Testing Instructions

  1. Create a Text custom field.
  2. Enter a value such as Basingstoke.
  3. Create an article containing the custom field by using the xtd-editor button to invluder the field immediately followed by punctuation, for example:
    operates in {field1}, we cover
  4. Save and view the article on the frontend.
  5. Confirm that the field value is displayed immediately before the punctuation, with no additional space.
  6. Repeat the test with other punctuation such as a full stop, question mark and exclamation mark.
  7. Confirm that normal spacing between the custom field and subsequent words is still displayed correctly.

Actual result BEFORE applying this Pull Request

When a custom field was immediately followed by punctuation, the field rendering introduced an unwanted space before the punctuation.

For example:

operates in Basingstoke , we cover.

The generated HTML contained whitespace between the closing field and the punctuation.

Expected result AFTER applying this Pull Request

The same content now displays correctly:

operates in Basingstoke, we cover.
