Steps to reproduce:
Menus → Manage
Select: Administrator
Click New
Title: My admin menu
Unique Name: my-admin-menu
Select Import a Preset: Preset - Joomla Main Menu
Click Save & Close
Content → Administrator Modules
Open Admin Menu for editing
Select Menu to Show: My admin menu
Click Save & Close
Menus → My admin menu
Open Components for editing
components is a special menu type only present in custom admin menus
Actual result BEFORE applying this Pull Request
Call to a member function load() on null
Expected result AFTER applying this Pull Request
no error

I followed the Testing instructions, but I cannot reproduce the issue.
I rarely Create/Edit Admin Menu, so I took some screenshots to make sure I am not mistaken.
Please let me know if I should test otherwise.
strange - i cant replicate it now either
The issue occurs in 6.1 it is not existing in 5.4
