What happened?

1.Hi everyone,

I'm trying to migrate a Joomla 3.10.12 site to 4.4.14 (testing on a staging copy, not the live site). I'd really appreciate guidance from anyone who has migrated a similar extension stack.

MY SITE USES:

  • Template: shaper_educon (Helix3-based)
  • Community Builder (profiles, gallery, activity, groupjive)
  • Kunena Forum
  • SP LMS (courses)
  • SP Page Builder Pro
  • AcyMailing
  • miniOrange OAuth Client
  • Accordeon Menu CK

WHAT I'VE DONE SO FAR:

  • Updated SP Page Builder to 6.6.2 (Joomla 4/5/6 compatible) — successful, no issues
  • Updated Community Builder Package to 2.11.0 — successful, no issues
  • Updated the shaper_educon template — successful
  • Set the Joomla Update Channel to "Joomla Next"

WHERE I'M STUCK:

  1. Trying to update SP LMS (from 4.0.4 to 4.1.4) while still on Joomla 3.10 throws:
    "Call to undefined method Joomla\CMS\Factory::getContainer()"
    — I understand this method only exists in Joomla 4+, so I assume SP LMS 4.1.4 requires Joomla 4 core to already be installed. Is that correct? Should I update Joomla core FIRST and then SP LMS, rather than the order I've been trying?

  2. Earlier, an interrupted SP Page Builder update left broken files, causing:
    "Failed opening required '.../components/com_sppagebuilder/builder/classes/base.php'"
    and later, reinstalling gave:
"Duplicate column name 'ordering'" / "Error installing component"
I eventually fixed this on a fresh install, but I'm worried about hitting the same issue with SP LMS, Helix3, Accordeon Menu CK, and Cookie Consent, which are still on old versions.

  3. The Pre-Update Check still lists these as "Update Required" for Joomla 4.4.14:

    • System - Helix3 Framework
    • Helix3 - Ajax
    • SP LMS
    • Package - miniOrange OAuth Client
    • System - SP Cookie Consent
    • Accordeon Menu CK Component

MY QUESTIONS:

  1. What is the correct ORDER of operations here — should Joomla core be updated to 4.x before updating extensions like SP LMS that seem to require Joomla 4 classes? Or should ALL extensions be Joomla-4-ready before touching Joomla core?
  2. Has anyone successfully migrated a Community Builder + Kunena + SP LMS + Helix3 site to Joomla 4/5? Any gotchas I should watch for?
  3. For extensions with no listed Joomla 4 compatibility info (Kunena integrations, several AcyMailing plugins, CB GroupJive, etc.) — is it generally safe to proceed with the core update and deal with these individually afterward, or is that risky?

I'm doing this migration myself (not a professional developer) on a staging copy, so I'd really appreciate a clear, step-by-step sanity check before I touch the live site with 2000+ registered users.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi I think you better ask these questions in Joomla forum bcs these questions are more relevant to solve there. Have you tried that? https://forum.joomla.org/
