Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

It's a problem, but not a bug. Let's call it an "incomplete feature", a "good first try".

The new be all/end all Articles module needs to be in the hierarchy over which Articles settings take precedence. The current hierarchy is as follows in increasing order of precedence.

  • System
  • Article
  • Menu Item

Currently, there are attributes that affect the module that can only be specified at the System level, such as date format, but there are others. The System, Article, and Menu Item configurations are all mostly consistent with each other, however, if you want an Articles module to have its own look, the only way to do that is to configure the System Options and then forcibly set all your articles and menu items that deviate from that. So, I'm afraid the Articles module in its current state of evolution kind of has control over how you maintain articles, category lists and blogs and it makes you have to work much harder to maintain the look of your site.

Describe the solution you'd like

  1. Add the Articles Module to the precedence hierarchy so that it has the "final say". So that however you configure a particular instance of it, THAT configuration takes precedence over all the others. Of course, the "default" option should be whatever other level of the hierarchy otherwise has precedence.
  2. Make the Articles Module have the very same config options that are at the other 3 hierarchy levels.

Additional context

Consistency, please!
