Yes, in 5.3.3 and 5.3.4 it works correctly. Just checked it before updating to 5.3.4 and testing after updating.
So i think it is really a bug in 5.4.0RC1 and 6.0RC1.

@peterhulst I guess you are using Blog Sample Data for testing. In this case, there is a menu item (ID 147, Title Joomla) links directly to that article, so the menu item parameters take higher priority and override the parameters from the article.

In that menu item, by default, Hits parameter set to Use Global (Hide), so Hits is not showing is expected behavior. If you want Hits to show, change Hits parameter inside the menu item parameters to Show and it will be displayed as expected.

Hello @joomdonation , thanks for your explanation.
You are right!
The display is according to menu item (ID 125, title Joomla) and overrides the parameters from the article.
I did not realise that the article was connected to a menu item.
When I changed in the menu Hits to Show, the hit counter is displayed.
Thanks.
Sometimes it is complicated with Global Article Settings, Article Settings and Menu Settings.
