Joomla has an option to send Private Messages via the Control Panel
interface, but these messages are not encrypted and someone can intercept them and use them for their own spying purposes.
Joomla is used on a variety of websites - from government websites to online stores, so I suggest implementing encryption of Private Messages that are sent through the Control Panel
for better information protection, since Private Messages can contain some sensitive information, classified information or commercial secrets of the enterprise.
Many enterprises prohibit the use of 3rd-party messengers for poisoning internal corporate information, so private messages in Joomla could be a reliable tool for sending important information.
I do not suggest adding the option to send Private Messages, because this option is already in the Control Panel
, I suggest improving this option by using the cryptographic encryption protocol "The Signal Protocol".
The user receives information about a new personal message by e-mail and can click on the link to go to the website and read the personal message that was sent via the encrypted Signal protocol.

Signal Protocol library - https://github.com/signalapp/libsignal
Trust in Joomla can increase many times over after the implementation of this encryption protocol for personal messages.

and who do you propose will spend the time to develop this for you
there are thousands of websites in the world that would like to have encrypted private messages to communicate with moderators/editors/etc, so I think someone in the business world could invest in bringing that to Joomla, because right now there are private messages, but they are not encrypted.
in fact, it is an industry standard in 2025 that private messages are encrypted, so having a private message system that is not encrypted is very strange.
@universewrld Brian asked you WHO will develop this, not why this should be developed...
EDIT: to make it clear:there are many contributors to this project so if this is ultra important you could sponsor someone to develop it. Someone, somewhere is not a helpful answer

Maybe I got it wrong, but in this section it says "SUGGEST AN IDEA FOR THIS PROJECT" and the button is called "Feature request". Is there a requirement when SUGGEST AN IDEA that I have to specify who exactly should implement this idea? It doesn't say "suggest your code or suggest someone who should create code for your idea". What did I do wrong when I SUGGESTED THIS IDEA?
If you like THIS IDEA, then you can implement it, you can take responsibility for implementing the SUGGESTED IDEA, if you like this IDEA.
I and many other site owners on @joomla will be very grateful to you if you implement this IDEA, it is open source and I also previously suggested creating a page on @opencollective, where everyone could chip in money for the implementation of this or that idea, but my IDEA was REJECTED.
Well, in the end, I suggested implementing the already developed "The Signal Protocol" encryption system in Joomla, which has already been developed, I did not suggest creating an encryption system from scratch, I simply suggested implementing an encryption system that already exists in secure messengers, developed on open source.
you clearly have no knowledge on how that rarely used functionality works - if you did then you would never have made this feature request
and who do you propose will spend the time to develop this for you
