Hmm, it's a good question why the $app->getUserState('com_categories.categories.filter.extension') doesn't find anything. Maybe this PR masks that problem only?
it something with filter, like when you filter the categories list by "foobar" and when push "create new" the "foobar" is pre-selected.
Or something like that.
