Hi, I started the same feature request before in 2017.
https://issues.joomla.org/tracker/joomla-cms/13596
That request was closed.
Iw as continued at Github in:
#16960

I asked eshiol if he have some time to finish it. But he answered he has no time at the moment.
So I hope someone else can create this feature for Joomla 4.

Feature request:

In Joomla it is possible to schedule articles when they start publishing and when they stop publishing.
I hope someone can create an extra option for articles to schedule the featured articles.
Expected result

Extra options in the article editor where it is possible to set a start and a stop date and and time for articles which are set as featured.

With this feature it is possible to publish articles at the frontpage for a scheduled period.
And when the scheduled period is over, the articles are still published as normal articles, so they are still visible in a menu item of the type Category blog.

I hope this is clear enough.
It would be realy great when this feature will be added in a new Joomla release.

There are plugins on the Jed that will do this already.

If there is interest for J4, I could take this to my students in a few months.

it will be much easier to do if the lazy man cron gets accepted

This is about adding the up/down fields for the featured setting or am I mistaken?

It will be more accurate if that is triggered by a cron but I don't think it has to rely on a cronjob.

No its about setting a date for a featured item to stop being a featured item

Ok, we are talking about the same thing. Those feature up and feature down dates are 2 date fields in the content item as far as I see it.

Yes, that's correct.

In Joomla 3 and 4 there is only an option to set an article as featured or not.
But it is not possible to set a start and an end date for that featured article.
I imagine that it would be the same as the fields for publisging and unpublishing fields in the article tab Publishing.

Do you think that will be possible to create in Joomla?

Anything is possible it just depends if it is something that enough people would want for it to go in the core. From what I can tell it will be quite a big job.

There is only publish up and publish down - not featured

I know, so I was saying we could add date fields for the featured state.

I misunderstood that sentence ;)

@roland-d might be worth to look at #18052 where it was done and "only" needed to rebase for J4

avatar brianteeman
brianteeman - comment - 5 Jul 2019

Grhh. It should not have been closed. It should have been flagged re-evaluate for j4

The PR #18052 modifies the database queries and makes it more complex as it already is, I would really like to see it based on #25022 and at the same time convert the published_up/down to the cronjob with integration into workflow.

well I guess workflow will have to be finished then before anyone can try and integrate with it

Is there a kind of roadmap for finishing the workflow?

@WoodyF4u there should be more progress as soon as the backend template is merged into j4 but no promise.
