Feature request:

In Joomla it is possible to schedule articles when they start publishing and when they stop publishing.
I hope someone can create an extra option for articles to schedule the featured articles.

Expected result

Extra options in the article editor where it is possible to set a start and a stop date and and time for articles which are set as featured.

With this feature it is possible to publish articles at the frontpage for a scheduled period.
And when the scheduled period is over, the articles are still published as normal articles, so they are still visible in a menu item of the type Category blog.

I hope this is clear enough.
It would be realy great when this feature will be added in a new Joomla release.

Actual result

System information (as much as possible)

So the issue I see with this is ideally it should be based on a cron job routine which would switch it from featured to not featured.

I think setting a start / end date for featured is correct and should be added. But imagine if we added this, the article is featured and passes it's date to be shown as featured and it's removed from featured queries users will get confused why a featured article is not shown as a featured article.

I suppose a Featured Publishing plugin could be created, which adds options to the article for the dates, then you could set the plugin to check every X minutes to make the article non-featured on a featured view and if it is featured and passed the date we unfeature it.

Thoughts?

@tonypartridge I think the implementation could be similar to publish up/down with a new database date field to query.

In the Articles: Edit page you can set the dates featured_up and featured_down, if the article is featured.

I just installed 3.8.0, strangely this feature is not yet available although it is mentioned at: https://www.joomla.org/3/

@mijalis it is a mistake that it is listed there as the original code referred to above was closed and is awaiting a new submission

Hi everyone, I posted a new feature request #38046 asking for scheduled article update.
If you like the idea maybe you would consider voting for it? Thanks a lot and cheers! Peter
