I tried to use this patch however the captcha still isn't showing up!
Using Joomla 2.5.14

Is there a way to manually input the captcha somewhere for testing purpose?
Any ideas on how to get this fixed?

You have to enter your public and private API key in the recaptcha plugin parameters.
