I thought this the best place to discuss this issue before opening a tracker.

Once Install from Web has been enabled, it's not exactly intuitive to hide it. Since the option to show the message, that adds Install from Web, is on the installer options screen, it seems intuitive for the ability to hide it to be on the options screen as well.

Please see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUAPXWO2IVg for a quick screencast.

I see where you are coming from but then it would not be working like any other plugin that is enabled/disabled from the plugin manager

I agree, however I am not suggesting that it's entry in the plugin manager be removed.

My suggestion is that since this feature is enabled from within the installer, it would be logical to be able to disable it from within the installer as well, in addition to from within the plugin manager. It is important to stress that the functionality introduced by enabling the install from web feature changes expected behavior, and my suggestion follows suit.

As a long time Joomla user, the installer options screen is exactly where I looked first to disable it, and it didn't immediately dawn on me to check the plugin manager.

I hope that makes sense and helps to create a better user experience.

Are you able to suggest some code for this?

@betweenbrain I also like the idea. I will be waiting for PR so I could test your suggestion.

@betweenbrain any update here or can this closed?

Personally I think the whole process is flawed a bit. Imho we should show a postinstall message on the installer screen instead of the hardcoded notice. Also there should be no options at all in the com_installer options related to the webinstall plugin. It should all be in the plugin options itself.

Imho best we could do is add a link to the (plugin) options to the webinstall view itself.

@zero-24 I haven't had time to look at this, so it can be closed it you all feel necessary.

I at least wanted to raise this issue for discussion as I agree with @Bakual that this implementation seems a bit flawed, especially
