Steps to reproduce the issue

A recent installed J3.8.7 multilanguage nad Akeeba Admin Tools & Backup that is now being updated to 3.8.8
Joomla is NOT giving the msg that an update is available in the main window
Going to Components - Joomla update I see that the new version wil be 3.8.8 and I click (Method Write files directly)
After some time I get the msg "Invalid Login"

Expected result

Updateing Joomla 3.8.7

Actual result

msg "Invalid Login"

System information (as much as possible)

I Cleared Cache and temp folder. Re-adjusted File permissions and optomized Database
When no action is viable on the server I press again and then i get a 404 error on the frontpage website.

Additional comments

In the statusbar the msg "Sending request to ) is visable and keep hanging there (The server is up and running normaly for other websites and they can be updated normaly and without problems.

I could do an update with the zip-package and remove the Installation folder. But im waiting to perhaps test something or provide more info.

Do not overwrite with the zip and delete the installation folder. That will not correctly do an update

If you absolutely cannot use the update component then follow https://gist.github.com/mbabker/d7bfb4e1e2fbc6b7815a733607f89281 as it is the closest thing to emulating what the component does on its own and will ensure you don't mess up the update.

Mr. Babker,

Thanks for your (quick) reply.

Before I execute your advise about the Post-Manual Update Script I must
ask your this.
I have the orignal installation still running on my testserver (J3.8.7)
Is there a possibility that i can copy files form one to an other?
And if yes, what files.

Met vriendelijke groet/ With Regards,
Fred van Kessel
