[#18270] - Invalid login when updating 3.8 to 3.8.1

I'm getting invalid login message when trying to update from 3.8.0 to 3.8.1
It makes no difference whether I'm using the live updater or uploading the upgrade package manually.
Directory permissions are all writeable.
