When enabling the page navigation, by default it shows two buttons labelled "Previous" and "Next".
This patch changes the default behavior so that it instead shows the next/previous article name as label.

I am not in favour of changing the default behaviour at this time.

Why we should show the title by default?
Because it's an improvement. If a user can see the title of the next/previous post he will more likely click on it when he's interested.
Wordpress does the same btw.

You are aware that this patch is targeted at 4.0?
It is a matter of opinion if it is an improvement - and it is already
possible if you want it to

Sure, but the Joomla 4 manifesto says:
Parameter Defaults Review - often when we’ve added new options to Joomla! we’ve had to set values to keep backwards compatibility in the system. We will review all the defaults in this release to ensure they remain relevant.
I consider this option not relevant, so my proposal is to have the title there by default, and personally I would also remove the option.
It's easy to override the layout if you want to have something static there.
for 4.0 i agree
Just because it says review does not mean we have to change everything
This is one of those cases where you're just going to end up getting the opinions of a lot of people and a result that really doesn't matter. It doesn't improve workflow any, and the statement of seeing a title makes it more likely to click on something is at best an assumption (without any data to back that right now).
So there is a Joomla UX Team, right? Can you pass this on to them and let them decide? I'm tired of having my contributions blocked for no reason.
I'll be completely honest here. Even if a UX team does something with this, the whole thing is still one massive opinion at the end of the day with a parameter in front of it. What you might do with your sites is massively different than what I might do with mine. Not trying to talk down the proposed change or block it by any means, it's just one of those cases where there isn't a "good" answer to the question.

Even more important than getting a user to click links is making the button text relevant. Saying the next article title is a lot more relevant than clicking a mysterious "next" button. People like to know what they are clicking and if it's a good title, you are giving them a compelling reason to click the link. Next/Previous kinda feels a bit random.

Added J4 to the title for clarity as views such as the one in com_patchtester doesnt indicate the target branch
What's happening with this? Personally I dont see any point to be honest. As Babker said, it comes down to opinion, therefore there's no point in changing the default.
I'm going to close this until we get the UX team to do a full review of parameter defaults. I don't think changing things one by one here is going to particuarly help.
