Login as Administrator in both the backend and frontend
In /administrator/index.php?option=com_admin&view=sysinfo, bottom left, it should show as Administrator 1 and Administrator 1 (frontend and backend)
Instead it shows one of the administrators as a visitor:
OS Linux u
PHP 7.0.8
Joomla! 3.6.0 Stable [ Noether ] 12-July-2016 21:14 GMT
So an Admin logged in to the frontend and perhaps working on the backend via the frontend is still classed as a visitor? I agree, that isn't correct. Is it a bug?
Don't know, but as far as I can remember, it has ever worked in this way.
I agree that it's not correct. But, maybe we need a PR to fix this: if a frontend logged user is an administrator, the module should say "Administrator".
This could create also confusion, because with 1 FE and 1 BE administrator logged, we would see "1 Administrator 1 Administrator". That would be repeated.
Maybe it could be changed as "1 Frontend User" - "1 Backend User". What do you think about it?
@brianteeman
The problem is the terminology being used and its been discussed many times
without satisfaction. What it is showing is the total number of people
"logged in" to the frontend and the admin.
there is a PR waiting to be merged into 3.6.2 #/10918 which improves the
display but doesn't change the terminology

Looking at it practically. What is its purpose? To me it should show, for example, a SuperAdmin, who is working on the site & where. But it is easy to go into Users and get that information and actually be able to do something about it. So is that information necessary at all?
(Thank you Brian - on that basis - just frontend with a number and backend with a number would solve it perhaps?)
to me we should use "Site" and "Administration"
"Visitor" is actually misleading, because a logged user is not just a visitor and he/she could be also an admin.
The alleged purpose is to show how many people are logged in the frontend and how many people are logged in the admin. Personally I think the entire module is 100% useless.
If it is going to be changed then at a minimum it must be the same as the module even if that means they both must be changed.

Agree - that is the conclusion I came to. Just eye candy for those who still get excited seeing people visit their site ;)
to be honest, i agree on your conclusion... and often, when i work with other windows, I click on "Log out" and I logout from the website (even if i'm working).
But, if we have this module and we don't want to remove it, we need to have same terminology as the other one, as said by @brianteeman

The only useful bits of that module are 'view site' and 'messages'. It would be a good idea if that whole module was reviewed by the UIX Group before Joomla 4 as I am not convinced that that location for that information is the correct position. Could this be marked for J4?
The fact that you find those two bits useful and not the rest is
subjective. I dont find any of them useful so i just unpublish the module.

Maybe just me unable to find where else to get the messages from and the only other link to the site is the 'preview' button top right. Guessing some people probably use both those.
Dont think i have used messages once on any site i have been involved in ;)

in the meantime ?
en-GB.mod_status.ini
MOD_STATUS_USERS_0="Visitors"
MOD_STATUS_USERS_1="Visitor"
MOD_STATUS_USERS_MORE="Visitors"
by
MOD_STATUS_USERS_0="User"
MOD_STATUS_USERS_1="User logged"
MOD_STATUS_USERS_MORE="Users logged"
User logged makes no sense in English
ok sorry :-( but it's possible to search an other translation
Does it matter in that context? That module's only counting logged in users per application, it's not breaking it down by user groups or anything special.
Hils it has never been an indicator of administrators or where they are
logged in. It is only an indicator of the number of people logged in to the
front end and the number of people logged in to the administrator
What about "Users" and "Administrators" ?
changing only "Visitor"
What about "Users at Frontend" and "Users at Backend" or similiar? (at or in I'm not sure which is correct here ;))
As both are users just in a different part of the application ;)
and consider also "Frontend Users" and "Backend Users"
It must be clear WHERE people are logged in. There must be no possibility
of confusing it with being the TYPE of people
so @brianteeman what do you suggest?
Personally I don't think it is resolvable with the current layout
i am closing this at this time as not solvable - if someone comes up with an idea that will address all the issues it can always be reopened

I guess that this has always been as it is now.
To me the word "Visitor" is not quite correct. Because it refers to a "logged user".
By the way it uses "Visitors" for Frontend and "Administrators" for Backend logged users.
