It's not possible to clear the fields

  • Leading Articles
  • Intro Articles
  • Columns
  • Links

in menu items of type List All Categories, tabulator Blog Layout (of the subcategories).

Thus there's no way to inherit blog settings from global com_content settings.

  • Go to com_content options (BE menu Content > Articles > Options button). Tab Blog/Featured Layouts. Set options and save:
  • - Leading Articles: 2
  • - Intro Articles: 3 (changed instruction: see comment #7908 (comment) why)
  • -Columns: 3
  • -Links: 2
    • Go to tab Category > Choose a Layout > Blog
  • Create a main category (level 1) + one subcatecory (level 2)
To go shure check in subcategory: Tab options > Alternative Layout > Use Global

  • Create/move/copy 20 or more articles in/to subcatecory. (changed instruction: see comment #7908 (comment) why)

Subcategory must not have an own menu item!

  • Create menu item List All Categories pointing to main category.

  • SET # Articles to List in tab List Layouts not to ALL but to a sufficient value (to fix another issue) Be aware that never more articles plus links are shown on a single page as selected here. That's not a fault of this PR On the other hand values higher than available articles in subcategory will hide the page pagination. That's also not a fault of this PR

  • Save. See frontend.

  • Click link of subcategory. You'll see blog layout of its articles.
  • - 1 leading article (instead 2)
  • - 4 intro articles (instead 3)
  • - 2 columns (instead 3)
    • 4 links (instead 2)
  • Go back to menu item. Try to clear concerning fields of tab Blog Layout. No chance.

  • Apply patch

  • Try again

  • See frontend. Global com_content settings are respected now in blog layout of subcategory.

I have tested this item :white_check_mark: successfully on 122b0a2
When the patch is not applied, in fact the values for the Blog/Featured layouts do not propagate correctly to new menu items. The suggested values are (1/4/2/4) instead of (2/2/3/2), from the com_content saved options. However you can adjust them when the menu item is created and the result is correct (the page shows 2 leading articles, 2 intro articles y 3 columns, 2 links)

The patch does indeed stop any values being loaded on the new menu item form.

However I think ideally the values saved in the com_content options should be loaded (2/2/3/2).

The patch has no impact. Results are are always (2/2/2/2) if numbers added are more than 2.

Could not reproduce this result, with or without the patch the results were 2/2/2/2.

Checked my config carefully but no change.

In my case the patch did have an impact. But small. It only stopped the default values loading in the menu item menu.
In order to see a change in the layout shown on the frontpage you do need to choose and save the values in the menu item menu.

Did you channge the global content parameters?
Did you clear the fields in menu item List All Categories?
Did you deactivate all other menu items related to subcategories? (!!!!!!) No menu for subcategories! And no other menu for maincategory.

frontpage

Frontpage is not related to this PR if you see a blog layout there.

Please confirm that you followed the instructions exactly.

My instructions had a misleading "mistake". If you select 2 intro items and 3 columns you only see 2 items but there are 3 columns.
third-column

I've corrected the instructions.

I've tested the patch again and use it already on a productive page. For me it works fine.
