having fews articles starred as featured
when you are in the tab "featured" and see only the featured ones, you sohould need to disabled several articles as featured.
if you click on a star, you go back to articles tab.
stay in the tab to disable another article as featured

The simplest is for you to install a test site with https://github.com/joomla/joomla-cms/archive/staging.zip and test.
Do NOT use this for production.

I can confirm this - not very friendly or logical
BTW you can unfeature multiple articles at the same time by selecting the check box next to the article and then clicking on the Remove button in the toolbar (soon to be renamed as Unfeature)
