Steps to reproduce the issue

  • Create a new folder in /images with ftp or com_media
  • Upload an image to the newly created folder with ftp or com_media

Expected result

Image preview in com_media

Actual result

  • Just white space where the preview thumbnail should be.
  • Also it prevents to include these images in an article. Using JCE 4.3, it saves the image in the article but doesn't show it, neither in front- nor backend.

System information (as much as possible)

J3.3.6 (updated since 3.2)
PHP 5.5.8

Additional comments

When I upload an image to a folder that was already present on the J3.2 branche then everything works as expected.
Also the images are displayed when accessed with direct link.
This is my first ever bug report. I hope i provided enough information and played by the rules.

Firstly your issue is not with the Joomla core but with JCE as it is JCE that creates thumbnails. The joomla core does not do that.
Secondly your issue is because of the file/folder permissions and ownership

firstly, the com_media (administrator/index.php?option=com_media !) thumbnails/previews have nothing to do with JCE. secondly, as stated in the report (!), all folders have 0755 permissions and all files have 0644 permissions and all have the correct user/groupe ownership. i work and developpe with joomla since the first day it forked from mambo...

did you try to reproduce the issue before you commented?? i have this issue in all joomla installations above 3.2 that i administrate...

thanks for the vid ;) was it a fresh install or updated since 3.2?
i also use joomla daily... i also noticed through google search that noone else had this problem except for me, that's why i reported it here... i have also tested it on several sites... ;)

i'll try to overwrite the existing files with the full 3.3.6 version now... maybe it has something to do with the way i install joomla; i always download it through ssh, unzip and start the installation... maybe some bits got corrupted...

i'll report back ;)
