the Content - Smart Search which is not enabled by default is for updating
the index and is a content plugin not a search plugin. You can have it
disabled and still have an index. This is to prevent your site struggling
to reindex content on a busy site at the wrong times. (If i remember
correctly)
So just because that plugin is disabled does not mean that you do not have
indexed content. So if you havent indexed anything (as you havent) then the
screenshot is correct, but if you click in the index button then it will
index the content and when you click on statistics you will see the results
