The language of the article is announced by the screenreader
As the field is disabled the screenreader never "sees" the field
The language select is rendered as disabled and a hidden input contains the language value
I dont know why you cant change the language of an article on the frontend but its clearly by design. However instead of a a disabled select that you cannot get the value of I would instead have expected this to be a regular input field marked as readonly

I attempted to reproduce this issue on the current 6.1-dev (6.1.0-beta3-dev) branch.
Steps followed:
In my test environment the Language field is rendered as a normal select element, it is focusable via keyboard navigation, and it does not appear to have the disabled attribute.
Because of this, the field should be detectable by screen readers
Is it possible that this behaviour has already been addressed in a recent change?

weird - it looks like it might have been a problem on a specific test site as i cant replicate it now. will close this for now and re-open if I can replicate
The same problem is present with the category field
