My server has not run out of disk space.
I solved the problem by setting the permissions of the affected folders to 755.
I believe the installation process should set proper permissions on every folder and file so that updates don't encounter any issues related to permissions.

The installation should set the correct permissions. Maybe thats a bug that someone can confirm

I've checked quote a few installs and they all have the correct permissions.
did you check to make sure that your hosting has not run out of disk space?
