Steps to reproduce the issue
Set the update channel of a 5.0.2 site to Testing and minimum stability to Release Candidate
Click Start update
Expected result
Site updates to 5.0.3rc1
Actual result
Page reloads with warning "File Checksum failed".

as we have now 5.0.3 stable, and the checksum works as expected
i close the issue

maybe something not updated on https://update.joomla.org/core/test/extension_test.xml
