AFAIK no filters are ever preselected. If the tasks manager really is by default hiding orphaned tasks it is unlikely people will ever see them

Preselected filters as you describe are always displayed. Here they are not.

We have pre-selected filters in some cases and it is always an UX issue.
Example:
Category list. Click on a number of let's say published articles. Then the state "published" is pre-selected on the articles overview.It is correct, of course. Then open an article and save as unpublished. It is not visible, as the filter "published" is set - and it feels like a bug.
A generic solution would be to give seleted filters a coloured background?
