Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

No,

Describe the solution you'd like

For the Category Blog view, there is the option to select 'by tag' within a category (which is great by the way).

Could this option be added as well for Category LIST View?

Added Categories "com_tags" and "Feature Request" at Issue Tracker.

@rytechsites please add "[4.0 " at Start of Title as Feature Requests goes in J4.

[4.0] Add TAG selection to Category List View

How would that work? Tags applied to the category would automatically apply to content within the category? Or totally separate, allowing categories to be returned on tag searches?

I would think it would work the same as it does in category blog view. Thats why i thought it woukdnt be too difficult to code, since category blog view already has that funtionality.

I misunderstood the title - I get it now. Yeah, probably not hard to implement.

I could. I thought @rytechsites made the issue and might take that PR. I'll take a look at the changes and go forward from there.

@rytechsites

While I'm looking at this code - I'd like to be crystal clear as to what your request is.

When creating a menu item for category blog, you can select tags for the menu item. Creating a category list menu item has no such option.

This is where you want tag availability, right? And you want it to function the same as category blog tag selection?

Yes, exactly my thought is just to add the capability in the Category List to select TAGGED articles within a category. This would give a lot of power to the category list page.

Yes, I would think it could work exactly as the 'tag selection' already works in the blog view.

I'm not a php code, so I did not create the pull request...

thank you!

I was running some tests and the funny thing is that the tag selection doesn't do anything in blog view.

I'm going to ask around to be certain that configuration is supposed to do what I'm expecting it to do.

Digging around a bit more, there's a bug in the tag selection for blog menu items. It does work if I work around the bug. Not a big issue, but the bug needs to be fixed first before this can be implemented.

OK, there's a workaround and planned update which will resolve #24472 - I'll proceed with this request.

The next steps are out of my hands. It takes two successful tests (by someone other than me) to confirm it's working as intended, then it can be merged. Assuming this gets merged (there really isn't any reason not to), you'll see it in the next alpha (probably).
