System information (as much as possible)

Joomla 3.7

Additional comments

A website can have corporate information, for example:
about us?, address, services, tec.

But you can also have organized content
categoriy parent named: SPORTS
categories children named: FOOBALL, BASKET, GOLF, TENNIS, etc

If the user wants to put an article (frontend) in his category, without seeing the corporate categories, They usually put a predetermined category, In this example SPORTS, but they can not choose the children catergoies FOOBALL, BASKET, GOLF, TENNIS, etc

personally i don't think at this like an issue, it's wanted behaviuor , cause you are selecting only one category (not a categories tree), i can consider this like a new feature/improvement

You're right, but if it is an improvement, better if you could choose several categories.

Then in the add article form would show 3, 4, or 5 chosen categories and not all or just one as it does now.

what do you think?

Sorry i forgot that this is now a modal select and its not easy to make that a multiple select. As stated above it is intended to be just the one category. If you wanted to have several categories then its actually already possible by not setting a default and instead restricting the user to create content in specific categories.

So i am going to close this at this time.

Ok, but i saw two issues:

  1. Multiple selection - Ok, it's not possible, now is modal, tThe solution
    is to use acl
  2. Default category is a parent, should it show the subcategories?

If we assign Sports as the default category, In the article creation form,
we should see
Sports - Tennis, Football, Beisball, Basketball, etc

If the default category is not a parent, then it only shows one category
(the one assigned)

Category parent and their subcategories is an easy way to display a
multiple choice inthe article creation form without touching acl.

Thanks

My view is that it is intended to show one category so it should not show any subcategories

And that is correct, but when the category is a father without articles and
the articles are in the subcategories, you should find a practical solution
without having to resort to acl.
Is the most common need in directories, web ads, news and classifieds.

I think that joomla needs an option that shows only the child categories of
a parent in their selection of the article creation form.

Thanks
