FWIW we did not deprecate the actual database driver (for the most part, it is usable just fine). We only deprecated support for running Joomla on SQL Server. The driver is essentially now in the same state as our Oracle or SQLite drivers, they're there for developers to use but the CMS itself isn't supported on the platforms.
