We need to get another tester, I will try to do it tonight and we should
then try to get one more.

According to Patrick "It's still necessary to have a 'metadata' column in
the component. The pull request just avoids double storing the tag IDs in the
'metadata' column".

So I take it more work is needed to resolve the issue with requiring metadata?

The tracker item 30746 is outdated for now because there is a new one which was already set to 'Ready to commit' but it was not yet merged:

No it's not necessary, if you want to map nothing to meta data just put
null.
