@brianteeman Sure! Can you have a look into my changes?
REQUIREMENTS
------------
First you must have the base environment for Joomla.
We have thoroughly tested Joomla! on: Linux, Free BSD, Mac OS X and Windows.
Linux or one of the BSD's are recommended, but anything else that can run the
a supported PHP version, a supported database and a supportet webserver listed below should do it.
Software | Recommended | Minimum | More information |
---|---|---|---|
PHP (Magic Quotes GPC off) | 5.4 + | 5.3.10+ | http://www.php.net |
Supported Databases: | |||
MySQL (InnoDB support required) | 5.1 + | 5.1 + | http://www.mysql.com |
SQL Server | 10.50.1600.1+ | 10.50.1600.1+ | http://www.microsoft.com/sql |
PostgreSQL | 8.3.18 + | 8.3.18 + | http://www.postgresql.org/ |
Supported Web Servers: | |||
Apache (with mod_mysql, mod_xml, and mod_zlib) | 2.x + | 2.x + | http://www.apache.org |
Nginx | 1.1 | 1.0+ | http://wiki.nginx.org/ |
Microsoft IIS | 7 | 7 | http://www.iis.net |
For more Information see: http://www.joomla.org/technical-requirements.html
SERVER CONFIGURATION (Apache and MySQL)
--------------------
You MUST ensure that PHP has been compiled with support for MySQL and Zlib
in order to successfully run Joomla.
While we have reports that Joomla! works on IIS server we recommend Apache
for running Joomla! on Windows.
[...]
Also I'm not sure if the install via comend line apply to all databases.
I hope someone can add some Infos about it.
Just include a link to http://www.joomla.org/technical-requirements.html
Then there is no need to try to keep multiple copies of the same information up-to-date.

@brianteeman and @chrisdavenport are we happy for this to be merged now?
Have to say still don't think the server configuration section is right with it needing mysql
The Create Joomla Database section is obviously not correct
Change "and then enter '\q' to exit MySQL." to "and then enter 'exit' or 'quit' to exit MySQL.".
At the top of that section you could say something like "the following instructions are for MySQL. Refer to relevant documentation if you are using another database."
that would work

Shouldnt we take the opportunity to correct the error about only working with mysql at the same time ?
